Who This Game Is For

Want to shape an island from scratch

Combine building, farming, and gadget-crafting to grow your own home base. Energy management and transport drone automation give real depth — it never stops giving you something new to build toward.

Want to sail an airship to unknown islands

Board your personal airship and set out for the next floating island — each one brings new biomes and materials. The "I wonder what's over there" pull keeps going the whole time. It has that Zelda quality of always seeing somewhere new to reach.

Want to unwind with something peaceful

No enemies, no combat, no timers pushing you to hurry. Grow crops, live alongside animals, and move at your own pace. The developers designed the game not to rush you — safe to start on a tired evening.

Want to play relaxed co-op with friends

Online co-op for up to 4. Each player has their own airship, so you can split up and explore in parallel. Building a world together and seeing what's changed while you were away is its own kind of reward.

Might Not Be for You

  • Players who want combat or action (there are no enemies whatsoever)
  • Players who prefer short, self-contained experiences (this is a long-haul, slow-burn game)
  • Players looking for narrative drama or story (experience over story is the design philosophy)

Overview

Solarpunk is a cozy survival game set in a world of advanced floating islands.

You manage energy from solar panels and wind turbines, build structures, grow food, and craft gadgets. Once your home island feels established, you board your personal airship and sail to a distant unknown island — each one brings new biomes and materials to expand your base further.

The developer is Cyberwave, a two-person indie studio from Germany. After more than four years of development, Solarpunk launches today with over 1 million Steam wishlists. It hits Xbox Game Pass on day one and lands on Nintendo Switch 2 simultaneously — an unusually broad debut for an indie game.

What Makes It Worth Playing

🚀 The Airship Changes How Exploration Feels

The airship is the heart of this game.

Once your home base feels lived-in, you build your own airship and point it at a distant island you've been eyeing. Every island has its own biome with materials and scenery you haven't seen before. The "what's on that island?" anticipation is a constant pull that keeps every session going.

🌱 A Survival Loop That's Entirely Peaceful

"Survival" is in the genre tag, but there are no enemies and no combat.

Secure energy from sunlight and wind, grow crops, live alongside animals, and automate your life with gadgets. The question isn't "can I survive this?" — it's "what do I build next?" Difficulty settings let you adjust the pace, so you're always moving at your own speed.

⚡ Energy Management That's Actually Fun

There's a real energy system here.

You place solar panels and windmills tuned to each island's climate to keep power flowing. Combine that with transport drones that haul materials automatically and the satisfaction of "getting the island running right" kicks in. It's not overwhelming, but it adds enough texture to set this apart from games where crafting is just clicking.

👥 Four-Player Co-op: Building Together Has Its Own Rhythm

Solo works fine, but co-op is where this game really opens up.

Up to 4 players share the same world, each with their own airship to split off and explore. Dividing farming, building, and scouting between everyone makes visible progress happen fast. Coming back together and seeing how the island has changed while you were away — that's a particular kind of satisfaction this genre does best.
