Who this game is for
It's free-to-play and runs from your taskbar, so the barrier to just trying it is about as low as it gets.
Classes, skills, items, plus a "cube system" to add and customize stats on gear. Plenty of room to craft your own hack-and-slash build.
500+ items, a deep rarity ladder, and 50+ achievements. The loot-hunting loop has that "just one more drop" pull.
The adventure runs while you're away, and the lightweight window sits happily next to other apps — ideal for idling during work or chores.
Might not be for you
- People who want hands-on, active combat (it's mostly auto-progression)
- People after a long, sit-down story RPG
- People who don't click with idle/clicker pacing
Overview
TBH: Task Bar Hero is, true to its name, an ultra-tiny idle RPG that fits right into your taskbar.
Leave it running in a corner of your screen and pixel heroes automatically gather loot and grow stronger. What's surprising is how much hack-and-slash depth — the "collect gear, get stronger" core — is packed into that tiny window. There are three acts and four difficulty levels, with a varied cast of monsters to take down.
Why it's fun
🪟 Effortless "play on the side"
The biggest draw is how it progresses just by sitting in the corner of your screen.
Your heroes keep fighting and collecting while you're away, and the lightweight design means it won't get in the way of other apps. You can glance over and nurture your build during gaps in work — perfect for "I can't sink hours in, but I still want that growing-something feeling."
⚒️ Tiny window, real build crafting
It looks ultra-small, but underneath it's a proper hack-and-slash RPG.
Combine classes, skills, and items into your own build, then use the "cube system" to add and tweak stats on your gear. There's genuine room to think about what to grow and how to gear up — it doesn't settle for the "just watch numbers go up" trap some idle games fall into.
💎 Loot and rarities you'll want to chase
There are 500+ items and a rich rarity ladder, from common through legendary and well beyond.
Beating 50+ monster types and digging for better gear delivers the loot-chasing addiction hack-and-slash fans know well. Items can also be traded on the Steam Market, which feeds the collector itch.
